Giannis Antetokounmpo overcame the challenge.
In 2017, the late great Kobe just retired and ended his legendary NBA career. He used his free time to “challenge” the next generation of athletes on Twitter.
Antetokounmpo felt left out. He tweeted Kobe Bryant asking for a challenge from the basketball idol. ..
… Bryant responded:
Kobe’s first challenge to Antetokounmpo was to win the NBA MVP award, which Giannis did after the 2018-19 season. He won the championship again in 2020. But the Bucks did not bring a championship ring in the playoffs in those years; that year, they were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals and Eastern Conference Semifinals.
For this reason, Kobe’s next challenge to Antetokounmpo is more difficult: to win the championship. In Game 6 of the 2021 NBA Finals on Tuesday night, Giannis and the Bucks defeated the Suns 105-98.
In order to ensure that he did not complete the challenge at a low price, Antetokounmpo was named the Finals MVP after scoring 50 points in the sixth game. This is the seventh time in the history of the NBA Finals that he scored 50 points.
Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash in 2020. He did not see Antetokounmpo to meet his challenge, but you can bet he will be excited about it.
However, you can bet that Kobe’s next challenge will be “three consecutive championships.” For “Greek freaks”, this may be too much.
