Goon Squad vs. Monstars: Meet new NBA-inspired villains in “Space Jam: A New Legacy”

Say goodbye to Monstars and say hello to Goon Squad.

Fans of Michael Jordan’s original “Slam Dunk in Space” will remember that the villain in the movie is “the alien quintet working for the evil Galactic Carnival worker Mr. Swakhammer” As a fan noteThe group was called Little Aliens in the early days of the movie. But then they stole the talents of the NBA stars at the time, including Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Sean Bradley and Magshe Boggs.

The team changed in LeBron James’ Space Jam version. First, they are no longer Monstars. Instead, they are called Goon Squad, named after James’ team Toon Squad. Secondly, these monsters have more characteristics than monsters.

Goon Squad is more like a basketball star who inspired them. The James version of Space Jam also includes WNBA players.

Below, we will review the cast of Goon Squad.

eyebrow

(Warner Bros.)

The Brow, played by Anthony Davis, is a bird-like opponent. Seeing Brow flying in the trailer, this seems to be a very unfair advantage in a basketball game, but I digress. The eyebrows obviously work on Davis’s famous single eyebrow.

Wet fire

(Warner Bros.)

Klay Thompson plays Wet-Fire, an opponent that changes between water-based and fire-based. In the trailer, these seem to be two different characters, but they are actually the same. “Wet” in basketball means you have a good jump shot, and Thompson is known for this. Then, fire is a sports term that means you play well, or hit bases consecutively.

Cronos

(Warner Bros.)

Damian Lillard plays Kronos, who seems to be a robot villain. As Wikipedia Note that Chronos is “the embodiment of time in pre-Socratic philosophy and later literature.” This has to do with Lillard, he said “Lady time,” or when he makes a key shot at the end of the game. Many times, Lillard will even point to his wrist, where the watch is, to indicate when it is ladies time.

White mamba

(Warner Bros.)

Diana Taurasi (Diana Taurasi) plays the White Mamba, this is Kobe Bryant’s famous Black Mamba nickname play. In fact, Kobe is the one who gave her this nickname because the two became good friends during their careers. By ESPN. White Mamba is a villain like a snake.

Aracinek

(Warner Bros.)

Nneka Ogwumike plays Arachnneka, a black and red spider-shaped basketball player with six hands and two legs. The name is a play on arachnids (a type of jointed invertebrates, such as spiders) and Ogwumike’s own name, Nneka. There are rumors that Ogvumike’s sister and WNBA star Cineogvumike also appear in the film, but she is not a member of Goon Squad.

Why are they Goon Squad instead of Monstars?

There is no obvious answer except that the film creator wants to change. Even James was unabashed when he promoted the movie earlier this year.

“I think I will play for the cartoon team this summer, not for the Olympics,” James said in June. “We will be ready to defeat the Monstars, or the Goon Squad they are summoned now, I guess.”

According to reports, not only will Monstars be replaced in major competitions, but they will not even appear in Space Jam: A New Legacy. Although Michael Jordan is expected to appear in some way.
