Is Rick Carlisle playing a kid’s-or Kidd-game?
The Mavericks are looking for a new head coach, although the current choices on the basketball court are not entirely attractive. Reported by ESPN’s Marc Stein The current Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd is the “main candidate” for this job.
To make things more interesting, in a conversation with ESPN’s Tim McMahon, former Mavericks and current Pacers coach Rick Carlisle publicly supported Kidd as the head coach on Tuesday:
I hope that Jason Kidd will be the next coach of the Mavericks because he and Luka have a lot in common in terms of players. I just think this is a good situation for Luca, and I think it will be an amazing situation for Jason. I am the only person on the planet who has taught these two guys and knows all their special qualities as basketball players. For me, it will be a great marriage, but it is an opinion.
Kidd has served as the head coach several times in the league: he coached the Nets for a year in Brooklyn, then for 3 1/2 seasons in Milwaukee, and then was fired in the middle of the 2018 season.
Stein reported that Kidd has many supporters in Dallas, mainly because of his contribution to the team as a player during the 2010-11 team’s championship season.
Carlisle’s motives for making the statement will certainly be questioned, but a source pointed out that Kidd has many fans in the team after helping Dallas win a breakthrough championship in 2011. Since 2008, the club’s first coaching vacancy will definitely strongly consider him.

I believe Jason Kidd appreciates Rick Carlisle’s support, but the reality is that Kidd has at least two strong allies in the Mavericks.they are @swish41 Yes it is, @mcubanSince Kidd’s somewhat chaotic departure as a player, everything has subsided. https://t.co/DARMx3RwC3

Kidd is currently an assistant coach for the Lakers, completing his second year in the organization. He is a member of the 2020 Los Angeles championship team.
Of course, Kidd’s polarized reputation as a head coach and subpar results (183-190) mean that Mavericks fans looking for a greener pasture after Carlisle leaves may still lack hope.
Rick Carlisle just poured gasoline on the calf and threw the lighted “hire jason Kidd” match on his shoulder as he walked away

This clip is triggering me.
Jason Kidd may be the smartest basketball player ever, and hiring him instead of Mosley was a wrong decision on many levels.

I can imagine it now: The Mavericks hired Jason Kidd and struggled early in the season because we witnessed Luka angry with Kidd on the sidelines.
All along, Jamal Mosley was hired by the Pelicans and allowed that young team to flourish.

It’s really bad when I have to play the optimist and convince myself to like Jason Kidd as the head coach

There is absolutely nothing in Jason Kidd’s resume that can inspire confidence that he will become a good employee, but he has a lot of evidence that he will become a disaster
If you want a 2011 champion to coach the team, let Jason Terry do it
