How does the NBA draft lottery work?
The NBA draft lottery will determine the order of the top four picks this year. After the first four teams are locked, the remaining lottery order will be arranged in reverse order according to the regular season record. The actual lottery process will take place before ESPN broadcasts, and the 2021 NBA draft order will be announced shortly.
This is a weed interpretation of table tennis painting, Directly from the NBA:
Fourteen table tennis balls numbered 1 to 14 will be put into the lottery machine. When 4 balls are drawn from 14 balls, there are 1,001 possible combinations, regardless of their selection order. Before the draw, 1,000 of these 1,001 combinations will be allocated to the 14 teams participating in the draw. The lottery machine is manufactured by Smart Play, the leading state lottery machine manufacturer in the United States. Smart Play will also weigh, measure and certify table tennis balls before the draw.
The drawing process is as follows: put all 14 balls into the lottery machine, mix for 20 seconds, and then take out the first ball. The remaining balls are mixed in the lottery machine for another 10 seconds, and then the second ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the third ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the fourth ball is drawn. The team assigned to this combination will get the first overall pick. Repeat the same process for the second to fourth positions using the same table tennis and lottery machine.
If the same team appears more than once, the result will be discarded and another four-ball combination will be selected. In addition, if an unallocated combination is drawn, the result will be discarded and the ball will be drawn again. The length of the ball mixing is monitored by the timekeeper with his back to the machine, and a signal is sent to the machine operator after an appropriate time has passed.
