Just one day after Neymar’s performance in Brazil’s 2021 Copa America first game amazed fans, Lionel Messi scored him a point.
In the first game of Group A, Messi scored a perfect free kick, allowing Argentina to temporarily lead Chile. But Argentina could not insist, and the game ended 1-1.
The Argentine legend can usually place the ball where he wants, and this time he rolled the ball into the upper right corner, past Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo’s outstretched arms.
This is another angle to truly appreciate the goal of the curve:
Neymar is Messi’s former teammate at FC Barcelona. His passing, knitting, running and positioning balls were dazzling in the game. He scored a goal in a penalty shootout, and when Brazil beat Venezuela 3-0, he also scored a goal for Gabriel Barbosa. Brazil is the defending champion of the America’s Cup.
Messi is under tremendous pressure to lead Argentina to the national team championship, and the 2021 Copa America is his latest attempt. He played in the America’s Cup finals three times with Argentina, lost to Brazil in 2007, and then lost to Chile on penalties in the final twice (2015 and 2016).
The America’s Cup starts from the group stage, and all 10 South American countries are divided into two groups. Argentina and Brazil, the two favorites to win the championship, started in different groups.
